Cemetery Department
Princeton Cemetery Department consists of two separate cemetery grounds: Elm Lawn Memorial Park and Oakland Cemetery.
Oakland Cemetery, located on Park Avenue West, encompasses close to 80 acres of land and contains over 15,000 burials. Oakland Cemetery is a locally historical cemetery with it's first burial performed in 1836. Many early settlers of Princeton are buried in Oakland Cemetery. Elm Lawn Memorial Park is located at the corner of West Warren and North Knox Streets. Elm Lawn consists of 15 acres of land and contains 3,000 burials. The first burial at Elm Lawn was performed in 1938.
The Cemetery Department employs three full time and four to ten part time employees depending on the time of year. Regular working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The office for both cemeteries is located at Oakland Cemetery and can be reached at (815) 872-4231.
